The following is a list of methods seminars and workshops in chronological order. This list includes training opportunities in research methods offered by AcademyHealth at the National Health Policy Conference and the Annual Research Meeting. A description of methods seminars from the 2010 Annual Research Meeting is also available.

September 2010
  • AHRQ's 2010 Annual Conference, "Better Care, Better Health: Delivering on Quality for All Americans," will be held on September 27-29 in Bethesda, MD. Leading authorities in health care research and policy will hold sessions on transforming health care delivery; developing new patient care models; strengthening preventive care and reducing health disparities; improving quality and patient safety; and measuring and reporting on provider and system performance.

  • Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA): Health Services Research and Development Service (HSR&D) Cyber Seminars. HSR&D offers a variety of seminars on specific topics throughout the year. Archived seminars are also available on demand.

October 2010
  • NAHDO 25th Annual Conference. October 13-14, 2010. Little America Hotel, Salt Lake City, Utah. The National Association of Health Data Organizations will hold their annual conference with the theme "Health Care Data: The Silver Bullet for Reforming the Health Care System."

  • ASTHO Annual Meeting, October 20-22, 2010 in Colorado Springs, CO. The 2010 ASTHO Annual Meeting agenda will reflect the priority opportunities and challenges public health faces in 2011. Health reform, the Winnable Public Health Battles of Obesity and Injury, Accreditation, Health Equity, and Preparedness will take center stage, with exciting speakers including Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, HRSA Administrator Mary Wakefield and CDC Director Tom Frieden.

  • SHADAC Data User Workshop: Using Federal Survey Data for State Health Policy Analysis. The State Health Access Data Assistance Center (SHADAC) will be hosting a one-day meeting on October 22, 2010 at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis to promote understanding of federal survey data sources available for state-level analysis; and provide hands-on training in the use of these resources.

  • AcademyHealth Health Policy Orientation Program. The orientation, will be held on October 25-28, 2010 in Washington, DC, offers an in-depth introduction to the key players, formal and informal policymaking processes, and critical health policy issues. The program includes presentations by well-known experts, interactive panels and group discussions, hands-on tutorials, and a congressional site visit.

November 2010
  • APHA 2010 Annual Meeting & Expo. The American Public Health Association (APHA) will hold their 138th annual meeting “Social Justice: A Public Health Imperative” on November 6-10, 2010, in Denver, CO. The APHA Annual Meeting and Expo is the oldest and largest gathering of public health professionals in the world. The meeting program addresses current and emerging health science, policy, and practice issues, in an effort to prevent disease and promote health.
December 2010
  • International Scientific Symposium on Improving the Quality and Value of Health Care. December 6, 2010, Orlando, FL. Sponsored by the Academy for Healthcare Improvement in partnership with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement as part of the 22nd Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care. The goals of the Scientific Symposium are to encourage, accelerate, and improve the science of continuous improvement in health care and health professions education; and to provide a forum in which investigators from around the world can introduce new work for peer review and discussion on the science of improving healthcare and health professions education.
February 2011
  • 2011 National Health Policy Conference (NHPC), February 7-8, JW Marriott, Washington, DC. The NHPC provides clarity on the critical health care issues and priorities for the upcoming year. In its eleventh year, the NHPC continues to deliver a program with insider perspectives from health policy leaders to an audience that included researchers, policy experts, and advocates, who all share your concerns and interests.
April 2011
  • NCOA-ASA Aging in America 2011 Joint Conference. The National Council on Aging and American Society on Aging will hold their annual meeting on April 26-30, 2010, San Francisco, CA. The NCOA and ASA joint conference is the largest gathering of a diverse, multidisciplinary community of professionals from the fields of aging, healthcare and education. Aging in America is recognized as a showcase for programs and projects that can be replicated, a forum for policy discussion and advocacy, and a prime source of information on new research findings in aging.
May 2011
  • MLA 2011 Annual Meeting and Exhibition. May 13-18, 2011, Mineapolis, MN. The Medical Library Association annual meeting is an opportunity to present and discuss papers, posters, applied research, and important issues in health sciences information management.
June 2011
  • Annual Research Meeting (ARM). June 12-14, 2011, Seattle, WA. AcademyHealth's Annual Research Meeting brings together health services researchers, providers, andk ey decision makers to address the critical challenges confronting the health care delivery system. The meeting provides opportunities to present and hear about cutting-edge research, debate timely policy issues, and learn about new methods and funding sources.

  • International Program for Development Evaluation Training (IPDET): Building Skills to Evaluate Development Interventions. June 13 - July 8, 2011, Ottawa, Canada. IPDET 2011 is designed to meet the professional development needs of senior and mid-level evaluation and audit professionals working in developed and developing country governments, bilateral and multilateral development agencies, or non-governmental organizations.

  • ICPSR Summer Program of Quantitative Methods of Social Research. Courses vary in length from three days to four weeks and are offered throughout the summer, annually. Ann Arbor, MI. A program sponsored by the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Registration for the 2011 ICPSR Summer Program is ongoing. The first four-week session will run from June 20 through July 15. The second four-week session will run from July 18 through August 12.

July 2011
  • Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM) 2011. July 30-August 4, 2011, Miame Beach, FL. The JSM is the largest gathering of statisticians held in North America. It is held jointly with the American Statistical Association, the International Biometric Society (ENAR and WNAR), the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the Statistical Society of Canada, and the International Chinese Statistical Association, and the International Indian Statistical Association. Activities of the meeting include oral presentations, panel sessions, poster presentations, continuing education courses, exhibit hall (with state-of-the-art statistical products and opportunities), career placement service, society and section business meetings, committee meetings, social activities, and networking opportunities.
