Dr. James O'MalleyA. James O'Malley, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department of Health Care Policy, Harvard Medical School. Dr. O'Malley's current research interests in statistical methodology involve the analysis of social network data, multivariate-multilevel modeling, and the evaluation of causal inferences. His applied research interests include the relationship between social networks and health outcomes, the measurement of quality and quality improvement, medical devices in cardiology, and the hospitalization of nursing home residents. Dr. O'Malley received his B.Sc. (Hons) with first-class honors and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, and his M.S. from Purdue University in Indiana, USA. In 1999 he was awarded the L. J. Cote M.S. Excellence in Statistics award for promise of contributing to statistics and its applications. Dr. O'Malley became an Associate Editor of Statistics in Medicine in 2009. He was chair of the American Statistical Association Section on Health Policy Statistics in 2008 and will serve as co-chair of the bi-annual International Conference of Health Policy Statistics being held in Cleveland, Ohio, in October 2011.
