Dr. Sara RosenbaumSara Rosenbaum, J.D., is Hirsh Professor and Chair, Department of Health Policy, the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. Professor Rosenbaum has devoted her 30-year career to issues of health law and policy affecting low income, minority, and medically underserved populations, and the health care safety net. Between 1993 and 1994, Professor Rosenbaum worked for the Clinton Administration, where she directed the legislative drafting of the Health Security Act for the President and developed the Vaccines for Children initiative. Professor Rosenbaum is a graduate of Wesleyan University (CT) and Boston University School of Law. She is the Founding Chair of the SPHHS Department of Health Policy, the only one of its kind in the nation. She has authored more than 250 articles and studies focusing on all phases of health law, as well as health care for medically underserved populations, and is co-author of Law and the American Health Care System (Foundation Press, NY). Professor Rosenbaum serves on numerous organizational boards, including the National Board of Medical Examiners and AcademyHealth (Chair, 2005). Named one of the country’s most influential health policy makers, she has received many national awards, including the Hansen Award from the University of Iowa, an HHS award for distinguished national service on behalf of Medicaid beneficiaries, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research (2000).
